Recording data without a signal

How PoultryDesk saves your daily entries when there is no signal, and how to read the sync chip.

Recording data without a signal

PoultryDesk is built for work in the poultry house, where the network is often weakest. Every daily entry screen works the same whether you have full signal, one bar, or none at all. You never wait for a connection, and you never lose an entry.

How it works

When you enter mortality, feed, eggs, a weight, or a sale and tap submit, PoultryDesk saves the entry on your phone first and shows it immediately. The entry is safe from that moment. In the background, the app sends it to the server whenever a connection is available. If you have no signal, it waits and sends later on its own.

You do not have to remember to "sync". There is no separate upload button and no step you can forget.

The sync chip

At the top of every screen there is a small sync chip that tells you the state of your entries:

  • Synced - a plain neutral dot. Everything you have entered has reached the server.
  • Queued - a filled dot with a number. That many entries are saved on your phone and waiting to send. This is normal when you are working with no signal.
  • Needs review - an outlined warning with a number. The server could not accept an entry and it is waiting for you to look at it.

Tap the chip at any time to open the queue.

The queue

The queue lists every entry that has not yet been accepted, newest first. For each one you see what it was, which flock, egg set, or house it belonged to, and its state. You can open the queue from the sync chip or from the More menu.

Most of the time the queue empties itself as soon as you are back in range. You only need to act when an entry says needs review.

When an entry needs review

Sometimes the server cannot accept an entry - for example a mortality count higher than the birds a flock has left. When that happens the entry is not thrown away. It stays in the queue marked "needs review", with a short message explaining why. Tap Edit and retry to reopen the original screen with your values already filled in, fix the number, and submit again.

Your data is never discarded without you choosing to delete it, even an obvious typo.

Signing back in

If your session has expired while you had no signal, the queue shows a single "Sign in to send" banner. Sign in once and the queue resumes sending on its own. Nothing you entered is lost.

What to expect

  • Submitting is always instant. The app never blocks on the network.
  • You will not get a "you are offline" banner on every screen. The sync chip is enough.
  • The screen you are looking at will not jump or refresh while you are typing. New data from other devices waits until you leave the page.
