Glossary

Everyday definitions of the words PoultryDesk uses, written for the people who run a farm rather than the people who build software.

Birds and buildings

  • Lot - PoultryDesk's common label for one broiler flock, one layer flock, or one hatchery egg set, tracked from placement to closeout.
  • Vertical - a line of poultry business: broilers (meat), layers (eggs), or hatchery (chicks).
  • Site - a farm or premises. Your top-level physical location.
  • House - a poultry building within a site. Flocks or egg sets are placed in houses. A house's floor area can be used to split shared costs fairly.
  • Placement - putting birds into a house as a new lot, with a date and a bird count. The baseline for mortality, feed conversion, and cost per bird.

Daily entries and data

  • Capture - the app's term for recording something that happened, such as mortality, feed, eggs, a treatment, or a sale.
  • Offline-first - the app's term for saving an entry on your device when there is no signal, then sending it automatically when a connection returns.
  • Queued - the badge on an entry saved on the device and waiting to upload. Safe; it uploads automatically when you have a connection.
  • Correction - a fix recorded as a new entry rather than an edit to history. PoultryDesk never silently overwrites; the original stays in the record.

Health and compliance

  • Treatment - a medicine or intervention recorded against a lot.
  • Withdrawal period - the time after a treatment during which the lot cannot be sold or harvested, so residues clear. A food-safety control.
  • Audit trail - the append-only record of who did what and when. Entries are never edited or deleted; it is your evidence for inspections.

Money

  • Sale / Expense - money in and money out for your farm.
  • Allocation - splitting a shared cost (or revenue) across several lots. Every sale and expense flows through one allocation engine.
  • Profitability - the per-lot and per-vertical picture of cost and margin.

Subscription and access

  • Organization - your farm business in PoultryDesk, living at {slug}.poultrydesk.com.
  • Subdomain (slug) - the {slug} part of your web address. Chosen at sign-up and fixed afterwards.
  • Role - what a person is allowed to see and do (Owner, Manager, Worker, and optionally Finance Manager and Billing Admin). Enforced on the server.
  • Plan / tier - your subscription level. It gates which features are switched on across the app.
  • Billing - what you pay PoultryDesk, as distinct from Finance, which is your farm's own money.
